Our Story
About Spanana
I knew I wanted a good mixture of whole fruits and vegetables. I started doing research on various foods that I could blend together.
I started with mostly fruits, but vegetables were important.
Dark, leafy greens were the number one food I knew I should include. Everything I read talked about the dense nutrition in foods like kale, chard, and spinach. I spent a few weekends blending together all sorts of concoctions to find one that would offer the right mix of nutrition and also taste good.
Let me tell you, I made plenty of bad concoctions. I dumped a lot stuff right down the sink, but eventually I discovered my base combination of spinach and banana. When I mixed it with a bit of milk, it tasted great and I knew it was every bit as nutritious as any salad I could make, and probably more nutritious, because I was never going to consume that much spinach in a single salad.
Around the same time, I had begun taking yoga classes as part of my effort to improve my health.
One day I took my newly designed shake to class and my yoga instructor asked me what I was drinking. “Spanana,” I said. She tasted it, loved it, and began recommending it to her students and friends. Soon we were teaching everyone we knew to whip up their own Spanana drinks and I knew we were on to something.
People started calling me or sending me emails to tell me about their health improvements. People who’d struggled with weight all their lives were suddenly able to lose weight and keep it off without feeling deprived. And I felt better.
Suddenly I didn’t feel like I needed to take a nap or drink some caffeine at three o’clock in the afternoon. I wasn’t experiencing the mid-afternoon slump that so many of us get during the workday.
YOUR NEW DAILY ROUTINE
I’m a busy mother with a stressful job. I have good intentions, but I also like to eat delicious food and have fun. I don’t want to spend all my free time on a treadmill or spend every meal chomping down lettuce. Spanana helps me to stay healthy, focused, and energetic, while enjoying my life.
WHAT LED ME TO SPANANA?
As a respiratory care practitioner, my career has been spent working in health care and medical environments. I know how important is is to maintain healthy habits and to eat healthy food. I specialize in working with the lungs and the heart. I manage and operate the life support systems that keep people going in life-and-death situations. I see the effects that healthy habits have on a body under stress. I know how important it is to keep my body in good working order. I also know how hard it can be to make healthy choices. Just like everyone else, I like food that tastes good.
My search for this recipe was born of my own frustration with trying to eat well while juggling a demanding full-time job and family obligations. There just didn’t seem to be enough hours in the day. And when I’m working, I’m on call day and night. I surely do not have the luxury of getting up and making a big breakfast every morning, but I also find myself working through lunch and dinner more often than I’d like. And I’m not unique. Everyone I know is working this hard. When I get a little downtime, the last thing I want to do is plan a menu, shop, cook, serve, and clean. I often don’t even have time to sit down and eat a meal three times a day. For years, I found myself reaching for not-so-healthy food choices-food that was high in sugar or fat. Food that left me feeling hungry an hour after a meal. Food that sapped my energy and made me sluggish. When I did take time to prepare something healthy, I didn’t like what I was eating. I don’t know about you, but I can’t eat salads twice a day and feel satisfied.
I knew there had to be a better way. And for my busy life, I needed something quick and portable, something I could have on the way to work or between meetings. The problem with quick, portable meal replacement options that you find on most grocery shelves is that they are full of sugar or fat. Most shakes and smoothies sold in grocery stores are packed with preservatives. Many are high in calories. And the worst part is that they don’t taste good. If something isn’t delicious, I won’t drink it. I don’t think you should either.
Spanana is low in sugar and fat, full of good nutrients, free of preservatives, convenient to transport and consume, and, perhaps most importantly, it’s delicious. I have introduced Spanana to dozens of people through the years and everyone loves it. I know you’ll love it too. This is not a diet. It is not even a radical lifestyle change. I believe in moderation and in feeding your soul as well as your body. I believe in occasional indulgences and I believe in having a good time. I’ll never tell you to eliminate anything you love from your life. If you love fried chicken (who doesn’t?), you should occasionally eat fried chicken. If you love chocolate cake, you should sometimes have a slice of chocolate cake. Life is too short to give up the good stuff.
The key is to find balance and to make sure your body is getting the nutrition it needs. Spanana is the key. With Spanana, you’ll get a great base of vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients. The Spanana lifestyle is easy to adopt and the result is better energy, better health, and a better life.
